Pencilled Turkeys

Pencilled Turkeys

The pencilling gene puts a spectacular pattern into the tail, but needs to be on a Black-winged bronze in order to express itself.  The pattern is also enhanced by the presence of one "grey" (cg) gene and one red(r) gene, as in the example above.  This is a rare combination so birds like the one in the picture are not often seen.

This young pencilled turkey is similar to the one above, but also carries one copy of the slate gene.

The same young stag displaying.

Juvenile pencilled secondary wing feather.  BWB with one copy of the red and cg gene.
